Gastrointestinal Anatomy & Physiology – 20 credit degree or masters-level university module

Target Audience Registered healthcare professionals such as nurses who work with people with gastrointestinal conditions and diseases who wish to undertake a stand-alone module at degree-level (level 6) or masters-level (level 7). This module can also be used towards a degree-level qualification or a postgraduate certificate. Learning Objective The expectations of the module are that you will have a greater understanding of gastrointestinal tract and accessory organs in health and disease.

Dr Claire Taylor MBE

Claire is a Macmillan Nurse Consultant with the complex cancer team at St Mark’s Hospital and also works as a lecturer and researcher. She has dedicated her career to developing colorectal cancer nursing for which she was awarded an MBE in February 2020. Claire’s work includes setting up the UK’s first network for colorectal cancer nurses 23 years ago which she currently chairs, allowing colleagues to meet and exchange best practice.

Lisa Younge

Lisa Younge developed the IBD Nursing Service at St Mark’s in 2001 and returned as a Nurse Consultant in IBD in 2020. She has over 20 years experience working within the speciality and is passionate about delivering services which support people with Inflammatory Bowel Disease to feel included and valued in their care and empowered to manage their condition.

Ms Margaret Vance

Ms Mia Small

Mia Small first joined St Mark’s in 1997, and has worked in clinical nutrition since 1999. She has held lead Nutrition Nurse Specialist posts at Barts and the London and Guy’s and St Thomas’. She returned to St Mark’s as Nurse Consultant in Nutrition and Intestinal Failure in 2008.

Ms Zarah Perry-Woodford

Zarah Perry-Woodford supports the team at NHS Collaborative Procurement Partnership working on the ‘Ostomate Project’ which focuses on the procurement of stoma care services nationally. Her first nursing post on qualification in 1999 was as a military nurse serving in the Royal Air Force on a general/colorectal ward.
